Widgets

From step 5 I learned about widgets. Widgets are tools/content that a blogger can add, but it is not necessary. The way that widgets are used is that it helps blog visitors find the information that is in our blogs. This also track visitors to our blogs. The widgets can be used for latest news, can be links to helpful resources, help readers translate our blog, events calendar for dates that are important, book lists, email notification of new posts and display recent comments or posts. The main widgets that should be part of a blog should be a search widget, how to connect with you on social networks, subscribe by email, and most popular post widget. They are not necessary, but they are useful.

Categories and Tags

Categories and tags are tools used in posts that help readers locate information in different ways. There are differences between categories and tags. Categories are used to broadly group the topics that are posted, each of the post must be in one category, use clear descriptive labels, can create between 5 and 10 categories for all of the posts, and the posts can be assign to 1-2 categories. On the other hand tags describe a post in more detail, they are optinal, we can use keywords from the post, we can add between 2-10 tags that are relevant per post, and categories names are not used as tags.
